24/7 communities Meal | Print |
Friday, 19 December 2008
At the beginning of December over 30 people gathered at Aldersgate House
in Belfast to share stories, pray together and get a sense of the growing
momentum and interest in intentional 24-7 communities operating in local
areas.

A great meal provided a perfect platform for stories to be shared from
four different locations in Northern Ireland, all at various stages in
their journey. Miriam M'Allister shared how Aldersgate has been the base
for a core group of people to meet weekly, eat together and pray around
the student and city centre areas.

Ryan Mitchell explained how a group located in West Belfast had taken over
a run-down church and ran a number of community projects and prayer events
in one of the most deprived areas of the city.

Elaine Stitt shared how a group in East Belfast have been on the journey
for well over a year with a weekly rhythm of prayer, gatherings and
mission. we heard how they have taken over local cafe's to run community
meals as they seek to reach out into the area.

Finally Dave McMullan from Lurgan told the story of how mission has sprung
up from prayer rooms run over the years by a joint-youth workers forum in
the town. A group now meet on a regular basis to eat and pray together
before taking to the streets.
