Christian Aid 24-5 – Seek justice | Print |
Friday, 19 December 2008

Dec 1st – Dec 5th saw the prayer room in Aldersgate House transformed into a space to be challenged by and pray for justice issues.

Manned by Queens’ University Christian Union students, round the clock prayer answered the challenge of Isaiah 1:17 to ‘Seek Justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.’

For me two areas of the room in particular really challenged me, one on HIV where one woman’s story, her name was Nana, personalised the issues that are so huge and got us thinking and praying for an individual whose story represents so many people’s stories across the world.

The other was a whole wall of world leaders, a little overwhelming when you stand in front of them and realise how much influence they have. It was good to bring them and our local leaders before God.

A different kind of prayer room, not one that left me with a fuzzy feeling of well – being, but left me with challenges and questions as to how I pray and act to ‘seek justice’ and really how often do I think outside of myself and this wee country? Good things to be reminded of in the lead up to Christmas
