The Methodist Church in Ireland has been on a journey in the last 6 years or so as they seek to connect in with the work of 24-7 Prayer and join in with what God is doing. In the last number of years all churches have been encouraged to do a prayer room.

Over the 6 years Several teams have taken a year to serve the Church in this area and help equip and challenge people in prayer. This year we (Beth Laverty and Jonny Best) have been working all over Ireland meeting people and churches sharing stories and learnings of 24-7 prayer.

In November all churches were encouraged to take part in ‘Night and Day’ which was a 24 hour period where as a body, the Methodist Church in Ireland committed to prayer. Many churches took up the call to intentionally pray, and we had the pleasure of meeting with many of them, trying to help and encourage them. Right now we are focusing on What If? (Year of Prayer) and trying to get people passionate about praying for our nation and encouraging them to join in.

It is so exciting to see the range of expressions of prayer that different churches have tried out . One of the most special things to see is young and old coming together to cry out to God and be transformed by Him. There is something about prayer that time and again seems to bring together people who always felt that they had nothing in common.

As we continue to explore what God is up to, we have felt called to press further into the mission and justice that comes out of prayer. We don’t pray just for the sake of it, but because we believe that so often God uses us to be the answer to our own prayers. We have a long way to go, but we know that God hears our prayers and we sense the thunderous amens coming from heaven as we seek to see his will be done and his kingdom come in our churches and in our nation.
