Prayer Spaces in Schools

“It made me feel strong inside”

Primary School Pupil

Prayer spaces enable children and young people, of all faiths and none, to explore life’s questions, spirituality and faith in a safe, creative and interactive way.  They enhance the pastoral needs of school life, support the mental health and wellbeing of pupils and are a great tool for Churches to use in their communities.

Our mission is to equip churches and organisations across Ireland to serve the ongoing pastoral and spiritual life of their local schools communities by hosting great prayer spaces. And our vision is to help every child and young person to engage their natural spiritual curiosity in exploring life’s joys, struggles and questions through the practice of prayer.

Prayer Spaces Normalise Prayer

Growing up raises lots of questions, some to do with experiences, good and bad, and some to do with the sense of wonder and whether there’s more to life than meets the eye. Prayer spaces connect with the lived experience of pupils. The activities can help give voice to whats in their hearts and heads, and gives them a way to explore prayer for themselves, to make their own meaning and to draw their own conclusions.

By dropping a fizzy tablet in water or reflecting on the heaviness of a stone these simple stations are teaching pupils across Ireland to pray in ways that make sense to them.
